JTB Presents: “English Haiku Tour in Matsuyama” (November 16~20, 2025)

Masaoka Shiki defined the term haiku, placed shasei (sketching from life) at its core, and laid the foundation for modern haiku culture. Throughout the city, approximately ninety “haiku post boxes” invite residents and visitors alike to submit their poems, and events such as the Haiku Koshien competition have firmly rooted haiku in everyday life.
Matsuyama, beloved by many haiku poets, is not only a literary destination but also the gateway to Shikoku. Here, visitors can enjoy a unique blend of history, culture, and cuisine. Highlights include Dōgo Onsen, said to be Japan’s oldest hot spring; Matsuyama Castle, one of the country’s twelve surviving original castle keeps; charming streetcars; temples along the Shikoku Pilgrimage route; and delightful citrus-based sweets.
As the largest city in Shikoku, Matsuyama offers comfortable accommodations, beautiful views of the Seto Inland Sea, abundant natural surroundings, and outstanding local cuisine—an inspiring setting for creative reflection.
Join this tour for a refreshing and uplifting experience, and compose a haiku that captures the essence of your sensibility.
