(注) この俳句は現実の写生句ではなく、空想句でしょうから動詞は原形「fly」を用いて翻訳しています。
ちなみに、虚子は「初蝶来何色と問ふ黄と答ふ」という俳句を昭和21年に作っています。虚子は小説「椿子物語」において、「一時は九州に緒方句狂君があり、それに対して山陰に安積素顔君が擡頭したのであつた。」と記述していますが、いずれも盲目の俳人です。この二人のいずれかとの対話を契機に「初蝶」の俳句を作ったものと思います。詳細は「俳句談義(8)」をご参照下さい。

(注)「雀等も」とは、「鳩のみならず雀等も」という意味に解釈すべきでしょう。しかし、穿ち過ぎでしょうが、「人を恐れぬナチスの比喩である」と解釈することも可能です。ウイキペディアによると、1936年にはベルリン・オリンピックが開催されましたが、「日本がロンドン海軍軍縮会議から脱退」・「二・二六事件勃発」・「ドイツがラインラントに進駐」など、第二次世界大戦(1939年勃発)に至る不穏な動きが発生しています。
